Introduction

Sea fishing is a growing discipline in fishing today and although you may here the veteran fishermen complain about "how the fishing has declined in recent years" its a story the author has listened too for years and is convinced there is only nostalgic merit in it.
 
From British and Irish coasts there is a plentiful supply of sea fishing to be had and enjoyed and whether your fishing for catch and release or for the pot you'll be able to put fish on the bank with a little careful thought and planning.
 
Safety is paramount in all types of angling today and non more so than sea fishing. As with all types of fishing disciplines, one should consider seeking the help of experienced anglers if your undertaking this style of fishing for the first time.

Pier and shore Fishing

The easiest venues to start fishing are piers and shore, this offer a ready supply of fishing and have usually got reasonable access for anglers, the shore style fishing can be beech or rocks but both the UK and Ireland boast some of the best shore and boat based fishing in Europe.

Boat Fishing

Boat fishing needs careful planning and most definitely an experienced hand for advise, this type of fishing can be exceptionally rewarding with much larger fish available for taking over a fishing wreck and deeper waters.

Charter boats are usually easy enough to locate and your tackle shop will be delighted to advise you on the best for you best options some of these may even supply you with rods and reels etc if your trying this fishing discipline for the first time.

    Sea fishing Safety

    Safety must be paramount in your approach to sea fishing, all water needs to be treated with respect however non more so than the sea, shifting tides, shelving beaches, freak waves and under tows are all great features for fishing however can be deadly if your not aware and careful.
     
    There are a couple of pointers for help
    • Always gather advise on areas you plan to fish
    • Good footwear is essential
    • Always wear a life preserver (even on shore fishing)
    • If conditions are inclement postpone your session for another time
    • Always fish with a friend
    • Tell people where you are fishing and what time you'll be back
    • Always ensure your escape/egress route is clear and that tides cannot cut you off.

    Tides can shift in minutes so be sure to be safe and you'll enjoy your sea fishing.
